Doggie Breathe Mints

Try these DIY breath mints for your fido!

Serving: 80 to 100 treats

Prep Time: 10 to 15 minutes

Bake Time: 25 minutes

Total Time: 35 to 40 minutes


  • 2 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup of milk, reduced fat
  • 1 cup peanut butter, smooth kind
  • 2 1/2 cups flour, all-purpose
  • 1 tablespoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup peppermint, fresh
  • 1/2 cup basil, also fresh


Step 1: Reheat oven to 325 degrees. Line the bottom of a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set to the side for the moment. 

Step 2: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, and smooth peanut butter until well blended. 

Step 3: Mix in the flour and baking soda until just combined. You want to avoid over-mixing. 

Step 4: Roughly chop the fresh peppermint and basil before folding it into the dough. 

Step 5: Roll the dough out onto a floured surface so that it has a thickness of about 1/4 inch. Using a small 2-inch circle cookie cutter, cut the dough out and set on the prepared baking sheet from step 1.

Step 6: Whisk the remaining egg with 2 teaspoons of water. Thinly brush the egg wash over the treats. 

Step 7: Bake the treats in the oven for 15 minutes. Carefully flip the treats over. Thinly brush the egg wash on the opposite side before placing the treats back into the oven for 10 minutes. 

Step 8: Remove the baking sheet from the oven and transfer the treats to a cooling rack. Let the treats cool completely before transferring them to an airtight container. 

Step 9: Store the treats in your airtight container for up to 7 days at room temperature or 2 months in the freezer.
